Introduction¶
Overview¶
CARE-Link is an open-source, web-based clinical support platform designed to improve the management of gestational diabetes. It bridges the gap between traditional Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and patient engagement by integrating a Large Language Model (LLM) with a widely used messaging platform (WhatsApp).
Motivation¶
Effective management of chronic diseases relies on sustained patient engagement and lifestyle change. However, traditional EHRs often: - Fall short of providing context-rich insights at the point of care. - Disrupt workflow with poor usability. - Lack mechanisms to interpret patient-generated data (e.g., home glucose logs).
CARE-Link addresses these challenges by using ubiquitous mobile messaging for real-time, two-way communication, reinforced by AI processing.
Core Philosophy¶
The platform operates on a "closed-loop" model: 1. Ingest: Patient data (glucose logs, symptoms) arrives via WhatsApp. 2. Analyze: LLM analyzes trends and alerts the care team. 3. Act: Clinicians review interpretations and adjust treatment. 4. Feedback: System delivers tailored coaching or reminders to the patient.
